Our client is a market leader in the provision of specialist accountancy and umbrella payroll services for contractors. They are a rapidly growing business who are committed to technology playing a leading part in shaping both their customer experience and operational processes. We are currently looking to recruit a Chief Technology Officer to join the senior management team and be the catalyst in a major refresh programme of their systems and technology environment.

The role will involve working closely with the COO and the Board to review the current technology set up, and initiating and driving a change strategy from the current mix of Legacy systems to a new highly scalable, efficient technology platform and set of business processes to support significant increase in company revenues and transactions. Whilst the role will include managing the IT infrastructure operation (through a direct IT Manager report), the majority of the challenges will be around business improvement and project management of development/implementation focused projects.

As such we are seeking a proven CTO with an excellent track record in managing and driving change and an extremely impressive track record in project delivery. The successful candidate will be highly commercial, able to analyse situations and take decisions, with proven experience of devising IT strategies/road maps (and presenting these at Board level) and delivering a new technology environment on time and within budget. At the same time as demonstrating high level strategy experience, applicants must also be "doers" and still hands-on enough to manage a team of circa 10 IT professionals rather than being used only to delegating to extremely large IT teams. Experience of system selection and vendor management is preferable as new systems are likely to be bought as well as built. Any business knowledge of accountancy/contractor umbrella services would be useful, but of more importance is successful experience of working in a highly customer focused environment where IT has made a significant contribution to creating a first class customer experience.
