A tree for every placement: Cornwallis Elt environmental pledge

As part of Cornwallis Elt Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) strategy, we’ve committed to planting a tree for every permanent placement we make as a business.

At Cornwallis Elt we operate with responsibility and accountability at our heart. We are committed to doing the right thing, for our clients, candidates, colleagues and communities. To meet the needs of our people, we must protect the world we live in. Therefore we are taking steps to accelerate our commitment to preserving the environment. Our environmental policy commits Cornwallis Elt, and the wider Morson Group, to make year-on-year carbon reductions, reduce waste and eliminate single-use plastics.

With our new 'Plant a Tree for Every Placement' initiative, we are actively delivering on our environmental commitments and making positive changes for today, tomorrow, and the future.

Our ‘Plant a Tree for Every Placement’ initiative does what it says on the tin. For every permanent candidate we place in a client organisation, we’ll plant one tree at a UK-based planting site. To make this happen we’re working in association with Treeapp, a specialist organisation who enable individuals and organisations to plant trees around the world. The planting activities are performed by local tree-planting partners, who make sure every single tree they plant benefits endemic species and local communities. Initially, we’re looking to make an impact locally and will be partnering with a planting site in Llangoedmor, Wales where 16 species of tree have been deliberately selected to provide food and shelter for a vast spectrum of birds, insects, and other wildlife.

Our ‘Plant a Tree for Every Placement’ initiative will:

  • Offset our company’s carbon emissions helping us reach our goal of achieving Net Zero by 2023

  • Help improve and maintain the delicately balanced ecosystems that make up our world

  • Deliver positive social economic impact by working closely with local communities

  • Enable us to support our clients, candidates and colleague's environmental and social ambitions

Morson Group ESG director, Gareth Morris, explains more about the ‘Plant a Tree for Every Placement’ initiative and the Morson Group’s wider sustainability achievements and ambitions:

Cornwallis Elt are proud to be part of the Morson Group family and our commitment to social impact is driven by our Group company purpose: ‘Placing people first’. As a global Group we take our responsibility to sustain and develop the future of the working world very seriously.

The Morson Group ESG programme, known as the ‘For Tomorrow’ framework is formed of five pillars - Environment and Impact, Inclusion and Accessibility, People and Community, Education and Development & Governance and Accountability - each supported by initiatives and partnerships to help deliver on our promises. Our framework has been developed to ensure that the connections we make, whether personal, physical or technological, are inclusive, sustainable and ethical.

So far, across Morson Group we have planted 7,200 trees across 12 global locations including Madagascar, Tanzania, Nepal and Indonesia.
