Lead Data Engineer – Azure – Data Factory

A Lloyd’s Market Insurer are looking for a Lead Data Engineer to join a brand new team. Working and building out a new area within their Data team focusing on their real time data globally.
You will be a key technology leader in their business with responsibility for application development for internal and external users.
You will be comfortable with a variety of data warehousing technology, architecture and large-scale distributed systems and operate like a hands-on technologist who can provide architectural leadership in the engineering of global data warehouse platforms. We are also looking for you to have a proven track record of successfully leading multisite technical teams & vendors.
The role:
Lead their global data warehouse development across multiple business departments
Deliver data for global reporting to enable real-time business decisions across Underwriting, Claims & Finance departments
Execution of strategy with hands-on leadership in driving design sessions, architectural choices, code versioning, code reviews, unit testing, build processes and deployments
Design data architecture, including logical and physical models
Ensure the overall roadmap for the development team is understood and agreed with key stakeholders
Develop scale-able consumer-grade applications for a global environment
Develop exceptional user experiences
Build a strong internal and external team of engineers who are passionate about problem solving
Provide training to all members of the development team
Ensure the team is following standard agile methodology for development while anticipating bottlenecks and balancing the business needs versus technical constraints
What you will need:
Extensive software development experience, including technical lead responsibilities and building systems in the cloud, including:
Developing data warehouse architecture and database management
MS BI Stack (SSIS, SSAS, SSRS)
Microsoft Azure, including Data Factory
SQL server
High proficiency in dimensional modelling techniques and their applications
Good experience of CI/CD, use of Azure DevOps would be a plus
Experience with best in breed code management and documentation practices using Git and preferably Azure DevOps
Agile Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
Strong analytical, consultative, and communication skills; as well as the ability to make good judgments and work with both technical and business personnel
