Lead Python Engineer – Python, React, Kafka, Architecture & Design, Regulatory Technology, Investment Banking – London

A Lead Python Engineer is currently being sought after by a Tier 1 Investment Bank, to join their Regulatory Technology function and take ownership of a team building out a business-critical Trade Surveillance platform. The platform is underpinned by a Hadoop-based big data ecosystem and is used directly by both the Front and Back Office to monitor trades and check for any anomalous/fraudulent activity.
The core of the application is built with Python microservices and a real-time React frontend, with a focus on scalability, availability and resilience to ensure 24/7 monitoring/detection capabilities.

As a Lead Engineer of a team of circa 8-10 local Engineers, your role will be split across a small element of fullstack coding, direct contribution to the architecture and design of the platform, as well as traditional lead responsibilities.
The latter will require you to face off directly to senior stakeholders across the business, gathering and translating requirements for the team, then undertaking resource/task allocation, running daily standups/scrum management and general oversight of delivery.

As the team continue to build out and enhance this platform, you will also have the exciting opportunity to be directly involved in their cloud migration to GCP.

To be successful in this role, you must have the following:
  • Strong hands-on coding experience in Enterprise/Core Python and come from an OOP engineering background
  • Involved in design/architecture, with good fundamental understanding around up/downstream integration
  • Prior experience working on a cloud migration project is beneficial, with GCP being the preferred cloud technology
  • Previous frontend experience, preference being React, is highly beneficial but not essential
  • Good understanding of big data or steaming technologies, such as Hadoop or Kafka
  • A background in financial services (Investment Banking, Investment Management, Fintech)

If the above sounds like your skillset and this sounds like a project you could really sink your teeth into, please don’t hesitate to apply!
